This session will provide an info of the impact of social media on breast cancer patients’ understanding of their disease. It will provide tools for healthcare professionals to utilize in communication with patients and provide resources to support patients through their cancer experience.

Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Increase healthcare providers’ awareness of how media coverage affects patient understanding of breast cancer–specific research and topics and medical decision-making
  • Train healthcare professionals to communicate with patients about specific breast cancer topics and information covered in the media and refer them to appropriate preventive and supportive care services
  • Participants will also be instructed on how to use a platform developed by FORCE that rates research relevance to clinical care and reviews media coverage to facilitate patient–provider communication
